Introduction
In the first topic, you learned about what autism is, what does not cause autism, and what we know about the genetic and environmental factors that play a role in autism. In this topic, you will learn about:
- Autism as a spectrum disorder;
- Diagnostic criteria; and
- The social/communication and restricted/repetitive characteristics of autism.
If you are interested in doing so, you can learn about:
- The process for getting an autism diagnosis; and
- Other conditions that may be comorbid (co-occurring) with autism.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this topic, learners will be able to:
- Identify at least three diagnostic criteria for autism;
- Identify at least three social/communication challenges of autism; and
- Identify at least three restricted/repetitive characteristics of autism.
