Abstract

"Morty the Meerkat Has Autism is a book about a meerkat that has autism spectrum disorder. Although it appears to be a children's book with exceptional, colorful pictures and easy to read vocabulary, it doubles as a teaching tool for adults to help them not only understand the autism spectrum better, but give them strategies to help the autistic individual be more successful in his or her environment. This book will undoubtedly touch your heart and at the same time give you an understanding of autism. J. I. Avis lives in Virginia with her husband, three children, and her dog named Spirit. She has an MS in education and devotes much of her time to writing for children and young adults. Avis is a current student of the Institute of Children's literature. Her favorite pastime is spending time with family. Joshua Nash is a graphic artist in Roseville, CA. He enjoys drawing and making things up. In addition to his own work, he has worked on many exciting projects with clients such as Scholastic, Child Heroes Publishing, and Hooked on Phonics. When he is not drawing, he enjoys eating Chinese takeout and renting movies with his wife, cat, and dog." (Amazon)
