"Darius loves cookies, but not vegetables, and despite his family’s encouragement to eat vegetables, he just won’t. One day, to everyone’s surprise, his grandfather succeeds in convincing him to eat them. Even more of a surprise, Darius discovers that he likes them. This story has been written by a child on the autism spectrum and includes some nice elements that other picture story books about autism do not. For instance, Darius’ parents and grandparents take an active role in his life, and Darius’ own thoughts and actions come through loud and clear throughout the story. Recommended for parents who could use some help getting their children to try different foods with a few tweaks in characterization (Why does mom look angry all the time? Why is dad so silly in contrast?) and storyline (Exactly how did granddad succeed?)."
